How to choose a domain name for a small business

A good domain name is short, easy to say and easy to spell when you read it out over the phone. Before you buy one, say it out loud to three people and ask them to type it.

Avoid hyphens and numbers unless they are part of your brand. They are the first things people get wrong when they type an address from memory.

Check the name against trademarks in your country, and buy the common misspellings if they are cheap. Point them all at the main site.

Finally, set up email on the domain before you print anything. An address at your own domain looks more trustworthy than one at a free provider.
